Labour demands answers on rail cancellations

Local Labour candidate Thomas Docherty has today (Thursday 7 August 2008) written to Network Rail seeking answers as to why the Fife Circle services were suspended this morning.

Thomas wrote; "Like hundreds of other passengers I was left waiting this morning at West Fife train stations, with little or no information as to reasons for the cancellations.  In addition there were no tannoy announcements to explain either the reasons for the cancellations or how long the service will be out of action.

Obviously I am aware of the level of investment that was made in recent years to the Fife rail infrastructure, however the spate of breakdowns, track failures and delays that have been experienced this year by Fife rail travellers is, I hope you will agree, unacceptable.  I would be grateful if you could investigate the causes for the latest cancellations and advise me of whether the fault lay with Network Rail’s operations or First Scotrail’s."
